A complex waterproofing refurbishment delivered by WestWood in partnership with specialist contractor Cemplas Waterproofing & Concrete Repairs Ltd has been recognised at the British Parking Awards 2024.
The project, which transformed The Plaza Shopping Centre’s car park in Wokingham, won the Car Park Renovation Award.
Spanning all five levels of the multi-storey car park, the renovation addressed issues with the concrete structure. Constant traffic and exposure to the elements had caused many stresses, exacerbated by a failing waterproofing system.
To rectify the problems, a variety of WestWood products were installed, including its PMMA surface protection system together with a PMMA waterproofing resin, wearing layer, and sealer coat. The project also demanded concrete repair works, corrosion control, and the application of anti-carbonation coatings to optimise durability and functionality. Adding to the challenges, all work was carried out while the car park remained open.
Gary Hemmings, Managing Director of WestWood, commented: “This award is a fantastic achievement for all those involved and testament to the specialist knowledge, skills and products applied throughout the project.
“Thanks to a collaborative approach, innovation solutions and meticulous planning, the renovation has improved functionality for the local community while maximising aesthetics, durability and safety.
“We are immensely proud the project’s success has been recognised by the judges.”
The renovation of The Plaza Shopping Centre’s car park was delivered in conjunction with Colliers International on behalf of Aviva Life and Pensions UK.
Launched by Parking Review magazine in 2002, the British Parking Awards recognise excellence and achievement in parking management, design and innovation. The Car Park Renovation Award was presented at a ceremony held in London on 13 September 2024.
