As the headline sponsor of this year’s Fire Protection Association Spring Seminar, Promat will take a leading role in discussing how to manage fire risks that may be introduced during energy performance upgrades.
With a key theme for the seminar of ‘fire safety and sustainability of the built environment’, Promat’s Technical Director Nigel Morrey, will join a panel of industry experts to lead a discussion on what fire risks may be introduced when improving the energy performance of a building and how to manage them.
The focus follows on from the COP28, which saw leaders from around the world gather to discuss the effects of carbon emissions in the built environment. The spring seminar will see leading figures from the industry focus on this topic from a fire safety perspective. While discussing the wider issues, the panel will also offer advice and guidance.
Nigel said: “With an increased focus on effective fire safety mitigation in the construction industry, partnered with the tough challenges of addressing sustainability, this event will be an important opportunity to raise awareness of potential fire risks in energy upgrades – and discuss how to address these.
“The need to protect buildings with passive fire protection while working towards increased sustainability in the built environment is a balance that we need to manage – and take a long term view on.
“As the built environment currently accounts for 40 per cent of emissions, this is something that urgently needs addressing, and stakeholders across the construction and fire protection industries need to work together to make sure we have the correct, safe but sustainable solutions needed to support sustainable building design.”
The FPA Spring Seminar will take place on Wednesday, April 17 at the Chicago Booth’s London Conference Centre, with delegates also able to attend online.
