Mitsubishi Electric has launched its Ecodan R290 heat pump, which it says is a big step towards more sustainable home heating. Manufactured in Livingstone, Scotland, the R290 uses a low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant to achieve a high Coefficient of Performance (CoP) of more than four, resulting in enhanced energy savings and reduced operational costs.
The product is also designed to operate quietly and allows for multiple zone control, enhancing energy efficiency and individual comfort.
Even in temperatures as low as -15°C, the Ecodan R290 heat pump can reach a high heating temperature of 75°C. This means a house can be warmed effectively, and provide plenty of hot water for a large family.
For a typical household, Mitsubishi Electric says running the system at a lower flow temperature would result in greater overall savings, with even more being gained if the household can integrate with solar PV panels.
